Surfboard sculptures at Caswell Bay
Three surfing-inspired pieces stand on either side of a bench on the cliff path from Caswell to Langland. This artwork by Ami Marsden is made up of a variety of textures in the form of a flowing current connecting all the pieces together. The shawl of metal fish and the color of the oiled oak contrasts with the dark charred waves. Directions to both beaches are illustrated using hand carvings. Also, carved cast aluminium insets depict the different kinds of shells that can be found in British waters.
Fish Sculpture at Limeslade Bay
A large mackerel has been carved out of local oak to create an ever-flowing circle of water. It creates a viewfinder at the centre so people can see the ever-changing beauty of the scenery as it changes throughout the year. Hand-modelled cast aluminium inserts offer both educational and informative information about the different shells living in British waters. The wood has been carved with letters directing walkers to the closest bay. It is Ami Marsden’s work.
Shell Sculpture at Three Cliffs Bay
In this Tina Cunningham’s artwork, a whelk shell is incorporated to relate to the location and the landscape. Including the 'plinth', the shell is carved from a single piece of wood. Located on the back of the shell is a viewfinder that can be adjusted to show a chosen view. Inside the shell is an aluminium mirror that is like a 'rock pool' reflecting light and a spiral. There is a rock pool that overflows into a spiral design on the front of the sculpture. Cast shells are fixed at the base of the carved shells. On the plinth, you will see arrows slowly changing into birds (gulls) pointing and flying to the beach with the words Three Cliffs Bay carved into it.
White Horse Sculpture at Rhossili Bay
In this oak carving, a white horse symbolizes the power and beauty of Rhossili, a popular surfing spot in Gower. The racing horse and waves appear on the way marking sign, with the text 'Traeth and Beach' pointing to the beach path. A spiral logo and cast shells have been incorporated into this art piece by Sara Holden.
Surf / Windsurf Arch Sculpture at Horton Bay
The carved wooden arch, which marks the way to the beach at Horton, is at the start of the footpath. The arch depicts a windsurfer on one side and a surfer with a wave on the other, both of which are based on water sports popular at this beach. Mirror images of the designs appear on both sides of the arch. The words 'Traeth and Beach' are carved into the arches and some local shells and a spiral logo are woven into the sculpture. An oak wood piece is split in two to create the mirrored sides of the arch. Sara Holden is the artist behind this creation.
